HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Residents in Huntersville might hear concerning sounds and see large flames over the next few days, but officials say it’s routine infrastructure maintenance.
Piedmont Natural Gas is performing maintenance on the 11000 block of McCoy Road from July 13-19 if weather permits.
The operations include a large vertical pipe known as a flare stack, which could produce loud noises.
There’s also the possibility of flames shooting out of it that would be visible too nearby neighborhoods and businesses, according to Piedmont Natural Gas.
People in the area also may notice a whistling sound or the smell of natural gas.
Duke Energy says the flare stack operation is controlled, managed and monitored.
