Plane goes off runway at Charlotte-Douglas, airline says

CHARLOTTE — An American Airlines plane went off the runway at Charlotte-Douglas Airport around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a spokesperson with the airline told Channel 9.

Flight 786 was headed from Charlotte to Paris when the plane's landing gear went off the runway.

A spokeswoman told Channel 9 it left a gash in the pavement three feet deep and 15 feet long.

USA Today reported a different spokeswoman said the pilot may have made a miscalculation, but didn't elaborate.

There were no injuries to anyone on the plane.

Maintenance workers assessed the plane's left landing gear and determined the plane was OK to fly. It departed an hour late and was headed to its destination.
