Driver charged in Huntersville deadly crash

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Huntersville police announced Thursday morning that the driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that killed a 20-year-old over the weekend has been charged with felony death by vehicle.

According to police, 22-year-old Evan Purtill was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a single-vehicle accident in the 10400 block of McCoy Road early Saturday morning.

His passenger, Caleb William Reid, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the investigation is still in the preliminary phase, but believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
