GASTONIA, N.C. — Police gave the all clear after an investigation into a suspicious package Wednesday at the Social Services building in Gastonia. There was not a threat.
The Gastonia Police Department tweeted just after 5 p.m. that officers are investigating a suspicious package at 330 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, which is the Gaston County Health and Human Services Social Services Division building.

The department said it was first alerted to the package just after 4:15 p.m..

The FBI assisted in the investigation into the package was placed at the MLK monument.
Police said East Long Avenue between North Broad Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way were closed during the investigation.
The roads were later reopened.
Authorities are investigating if the monument was targeted.
