Mooresville drivers concerned over objects being thrown at cars

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Several people in Mooresville posted online saying their cars have been hit by rocks or metal objects thrown at them in the past few weeks.

Channel 9 spoke with one woman whose sunroof was shattered, and she says it came from someone throwing a metal object. She shared a video showing shards of glass and debris all over the inside of her car.

It happened along Highway 150 near Caldwell Road in Mooresville. Channel 9’s Evan Donovan spoke with one woman after her trip took a scary turn.

“Luckily, I was not the one driving because I’m taller than my mom, and it would have hit me right in the head,” Kiara Hernandez said.

Kiara Hernandez says she was in the passenger seat while her mom was driving last Friday, turning left onto Statesville Avenue from Highway 150.

“Suddenly, the center exploded, and we thought we got shot. Then a couple stopped and said they saw a white sedan throw something at us, and it was a big metal piece,” Hernandez said.

“It was very scary,” Hernandez told Donovan.

Thankfully, they weren’t seriously hurt. Hernandez said she had minor scratches.

“My mom got scratches on her arm,” Hernandez said.

Another Facebook user said the same thing happened to his wife Thursday morning on Highway 150.

One person tells us the same thing happened to their 16-year-old relative on the same road in June.

Hernandez says at least one business at this intersection is submitting surveillance video to police.

Hernandez is dealing with insurance. She says she hopes police can determine whether this is part of a wider issue.

“So the police also called the insurance company and asked them to pay for the deductible, which is very high,” Hernandez said.

We asked police whether they have identified any suspects or are tracking this as a wider issue.

We’ll let you know when we hear back.
