Police responded to a call just before midnight Tuesday.

When they arrived at the scene on Harrill Street, officers said they observed one of the apartment buildings had been sprayed with bullets.

Upon further investigation, officials said they found an elderly woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg and she was rushed to the hospital.

Neighbors told Channel 9 the woman is still in the hospital, but is expected to be OK.

Neighbors said they are afraid to sit out on their porch now after seeing the bullet holes.

"I don't know what happened, but it's making me nervous," neighbor Mary Vaughn said.

Neighbor Hannah Mitchell said she tried to check on her neighbor, but first responders would not let her inside the apartment.

"When they hit her window, I thought they were hitting mine," Mitchell said. "Then, they brought her out on the stretcher and I was like 'Oh my gosh.'"

Mitchell said she was glad to see police officers at the complex Wednesday because she has asked for a bigger police presence in the last.

"Keeping a patrol car out here may not stop it, but it might slow it down," Mitchell said.

No arrests have been made at this time.
