Police arrest man in Charlotte accused of Lancaster slaying last month

LANCASTER, S.C. — Police said they have arrested a man accused of shooting and killing another man last month in Lancaster.

Officers responded just after 4 p.m on Aug. 1 to a home on Dixon Road, where they found Garfield Antonio McGriff shot in the driveway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting.

During the investigation, Demario Lamar Mingo was named a suspect in the case. Police said arrest warrants were obtained charging Mingo with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of violent crime.

At the time of the shooting, Mingo was out on bond for second-degree burglary, three counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession with intent to distribute.

On Thursday, police said Mingo, 40, was arrested in Charlotte.
