Police in Charlotte investigate 2 homicides over Christmas weekend

CHARLOTTE — Officers in Charlotte responded to two homicides over the Christmas weekend.

CMPD responded to an assist MEDIC call on the 2900 block of Beard Road in northeast Charlotte shortly before 8 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Police said Henry Omar Benitez-Martinez, 30, was found seriously hurt and died at the hospital.

On Christmas Eve, someone was shot and killed at about 4 a.m. at the Marriott on the 2200 block of Rexford Road in south Charlotte.

The victim was 32-year-old Wilmer Ulises Olivas-Alvarez.

Danny Earl McGowan was charged with murder, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
