Man accused of robbing south Charlotte credit union turns himself in

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man accused of robbing a south Charlotte bank is in jail, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Officials said 33-year-old Wade Banner turned himself in to the Person County Sheriff's Office on Monday.

The robbery happened on May 7 at the Latino Community Credit Union on South Boulevard.

Officials told Channel 9's Tina Terrry Banner did not use a gun during the robbery but passed a note to a teller saying "Give me the money."

Police said Banner did get away with an unknown amount of money.

There were six people inside the business when the robbery happened, but no one was injured.

Customers said it happened so fast, they did not immediately notice.

Bridgette Stinson said she witnessed the aftermath of the bank robbery.

"I was just gonna go up there and I saw the cops and stuff and I was just like 'What's going on, something happened,'" Stinson said.

Stinson said she planned to stop at the ATM with her baby. She said she is grateful she didn't cross paths with the robber.

"It's terrible. It's getting worser and worse," Stinson said. "I'm just trying get past my day with my little one and then go on back home."

CMPD said once Banner has been transported back to Charlotte and is in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, he will be charged with the robbery.
