Second suspect arrested in 2019 murder of Rowan County man

LANDIS, N.C. — A second suspect was arrested in the 2019 shooting death of Landis man Timothy Austin Hall.

Kannapolis and Landis Police arrested Kiquan Larence Freeman, 28, early Sunday morning. He was charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

“It is a great day in law enforcement when we can make an arrest in a case and work toward bringing closure to a victim’s family,” said Landis Public Safety Director Zachary Lechette.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have been involved in this case, including: the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the China Grove Police Department.

Elizabeth Raye Freeman, 60, was arrested and charged with murder in September 2020.

The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. Aug. 16, 2019 on Town Street in Landis.

When officers got to the scene, they said they found 51-year-old Timothy Austin Hall dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Neighbors said they saw a dark SUV pull up to the house and shortly after, they heard a gunshot. Minutes later, witnesses said there were three more gunshots and then the SUV drove off.

"A few minutes later, maybe seven minutes later, my neighbor approached the fence and said, ‘Can someone call 911? My boyfriend was shot,'" neighbor Dirk Rogers said.

Neighbors described Hall as a kind and respectful person.

Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Safrit with the Landis Police Department. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-866-639-5245 or online.
