Police: Man exposed himself on south Charlotte greenway

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for a man they say exposed himself along a south Charlotte greenway Monday.

The incident happened along a stretch of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, just a few hundred yards from Park Road Montessori School.

Police said he is a white man who is around 30 years old. He was spotted by children on a nearby playground, and was wearing blue shorts and a bike helmet, officials said.

Police think he is the same man children saw in the same area exposing himself in March.

Barry Flaherty hadn't heard about the incident until Eyewitness News told him.

"That's kind of disturbing. There's lots of kids, lots of women out here. I mean, I wouldn't be too happy if someone exposed themselves to me, either," Flaherty said.

Eyewitness News also spoke to parents who were dropping their children off Thursday morning.

Brenda Eckmair said her thoughts on the area she has lived in for almost 14 years haven’t changed.

"My feeling of safety about this area is no different than before. It's a great area. Incidents like this can happen anywhere," Eckmair said.

The school sent a letter to parents notifying them about the incident.

In the letter, parents were told, "I would like to inform everyone of an incident that took place on the greenway behind campus this week.  An individual was witnessed behaving in an inappropriate manner.  The situation was reported immediately to CMPD, CMS and the Park Watch division of Mecklenburg County."

CMPD said officers are keeping a closer eye on the area.
