LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A man is in the hospital on a breathing tube after police said he tried to stop a fight at a 6-year-old's birthday party.
Lincolnton police said volunteer firefighter Lance Tuno shot Charles Fowler Sunday when two mothers started fighting at the party in an apartment.
Tuno posted $50,000 bail on Monday.
Police said Tuno called 911 saying that Fowler punched him.
"It's fortunate only one person was hurt. Thank goodness no children were hurt," said Lincolnton Police Officer Jason Munday.
Police said Fowler lived next door to the apartment where he was shot.
They are waiting for doctors to remove a breathing tube so they can ask him questions, police said.
