MARION, N.C. — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating after two police officers were involved in a deadly crash on Highway 221 in Marion early Wednesday morning.

Officials said two Marion officers were heading to training in Avery County when their vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection near Baxter Healthcare, resulting in the death of the other driver.
Both officers were rushed to Mission Hospital McDowell with non-life-threatening injuries, but are expected to be OK.
No names have been released at this point.
