KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police in Kannapolis have arrested a suspect in the November 2020 murder of a 17-year-old.
Officers arrested Carlton Smith, 19, on Thursday and charged him with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Officers received a 911 call around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 about a shooting on West 13th Street. When police got there, they found Jaiden Yates, who had been shot.
Officers could not save him and the teenager died at the scene.
Smith is currently being held in the Cabarrus County jail with no bond.
