‘Respected, dependable, hardworking’: Rowan County sheriff’s master deputy dies of COVID-19

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A deputy with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office died Sunday morning from COVID-19, officials said.

Master Deputy William “Billy” Marsh was sworn in as a reserve deputy in 2012. At that time, he was also a full-time officer with the Cleveland Police Department.

Marsh became a full-time deputy with the RCSO in 2015.

“Master Deputy Marsh was a respected, dependable and hardworking deputy,” officials said.

Marsh had been hospitalized due to COVID-19 since Sept. 30.

He is survived by a wife and 2-year-old child.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
