Shelby shootings that left 1 dead, 3 hurt are connected, police say

SHELBY, N.C. — Two shootings that left one person dead and three others hurt Tuesday night are connected, according to the Shelby Police Department.

Officers said they responded to the first shooting just after 10 p.m. on Frederick Street. When they got there, they said they found three people who had been shot. All three victims were taken to Atrium Health Cleveland for treatment, but are expected to be OK.

While investigating the scene, officers said another shooting happened nearby on Lenoir Drive. When they got there, officers said they discovered 18-year-old Daquarrius Raquan Sanders had been shot. He was taken to Atrium Health Cleveland where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the shootings are connected, but have not released any additional details. No arrests have been made.

Detectives are currently working with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and federal agencies on these cases.
