Man charged with killing 2, including a 4-year-old, in Rock Hill shooting

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A man is facing multiple charges after a Rock Hill shooting left 19-year-old Jamareon Kimble and 4-year-old Jakolby Clifton dead Tuesday night, according to the police department.

The shooting started around 7:40 p.m. on Frank Street. When officers arrived at the home, they say they found two men and a young child with gunshot wounds.

Investigators say the men were fighting inside the home when the shooting began. They then continued to fire shots as they exited the home. Both men and the child were struck by the gunfire.

“The gun, that was a big gun,” said neighbor Gloria Finch. “It wasn’t a .22 (caliber), that’s for sure. It had to be.”

Finch said she heard at least eight gunshots.

“And so, I said, ‘I’m getting ready to call the police.’ And by that time, I heard the fire trucks, the ambulance, everything. They were already coming.”

She added, “They was doing CPR on him. They really tried to save him.”

Cedrick Creighton, 34, is now charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon during a crime of violence and unlawful possession of a firearms by a person convicted of certain crimes.

According to The Herald in Rock Hill, Creighton was out of prison on supervised release at the time of the shooting. He got out of prison in October for domestic violence. He served a year and four months of his five-year sentence, The Herald reported. His supervised release was set to end in April.

“This is heartbreaking,” said Lt. Michael Chavis, Rock Hill Police Department. “The four-year-old happened to be in the home, caught in the middle, basically.”

Neighbors are stunned and asking for change.

“That little 4-year-old kid didn’t even have time to recognize what his life was looking like,” said resident Lawrence Sanders. “The neighborhood needs peace, they need love.”

Creighton was still being treated for his injuries Wednesday evening, and he will be transported to the Rock Hill jail once he is released from the hospital.
