CHARLOTTE — Six Flags Entertainment Corp. plans to relocate its corporate headquarters next year to Arlington, Texas, marking the loss of a Fortune 1000 company for the Charlotte region.
The news comes just two years after Six Flags (NYSE: FUN) made its home here — and as the company grapples with financial losses and operational challenges.
“The decision to return the company’s headquarters to Arlington is a continuation of our efforts to evolve the organization and enhance operational efficiency,” said John Reilly, president and CEO of Six Flags. “After an extensive review, we determined that concentrating our personnel, processes and decision-making in our Arlington office, where a portion of Six Flags corporate employees are located, is the best path forward for the company.”
Arlington, located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, had been home to the legacy Six Flags organization prior to the company’smerger with Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair.
Six Flags is the nation’s largest amusement park operator. Its portfolio includes 20 amusement parks, 14 water parks and nine resort properties across 13 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico, as well as an amusement park in Saudi Arabia.
Locally, it owns the Carowinds amusement park spanning 400-plus acres on the North Carolina-South Carolina border.
