Deputies shoot armed man in York County, investigators say

ROCK HILL, S.C. — An armed man was shot by deputies in York County Friday afternoon, investigators said.

The shooting happened at around 2:15 p.m. at a home on Highway 324 in Rock Hill while conducting a welfare check. Chopper 9 was overhead and while investigators were at the scene and could see a Ford F-150 riddled with bullet holes.

According to officials, the man was flown to a hospital in Charlotte for his injuries. His identity has not been released.

No deputies were hurt in the shooting.

Authorities have not released any other details on the suspect at this point.

York County Sheriff Kevin Tolison said they are praying for the man.

SLED is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Initial reports indicated the armed man shot at deputies. The sheriff’s office later clarified there was no evidence that the man shot at deputies.
