COLUMBIA, S.C. — Starting Sunday, people in South Carolina who use SNAP benefits can no longer use their cards to buy sugary drinks and candy.
Diet and zero-sugar soft drinks will remain eligible.
Program leaders say the change is designed to encourage healthier food choices among SNAP recipients.
Benefit amounts and eligibility will not change.
