RALEIGH — The North Carolina Department of Administration and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services have installed signs promoting the 988 crisis hotline in state parking decks in Raleigh.
The collaborative project places signage throughout state-owned parking structures to expand access to mental health support services across the state, officials said.
The 988 service connects individuals with trained crisis counselors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Assistance is accessible by phone call, text message or online chat for anyone struggling or seeking support.
This year, NCDHHS marked the fourth anniversary of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which launched in July 2022. The free and confidential service is available 24 hours a day in English and Spanish by phone, text or online chat. It provides support for people experiencing depression, emotional distress, a mental health crisis, thoughts of self-harm, or anyone who simply needs someone to talk to. In September 2023, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration added direct video calling to 988 for people who communicate using American Sign Language.
