Thousands remain without power a day after storms

CHARLOTTE — Thousands of customers remained without power Friday after a series of storms caused outages across the Carolinas.

Outage maps from Duke Energy showed about 15,000 customers around Charlotte were without power Friday night. Another 9,000 outages were reported along the state line.

Strong storms hit the area Thursday and Friday afternoon.

Late Thursday afternoon, Duke Energy reported more than 40,000 power outages in the Charlotte area. That number rose to more than 40,000 into the evening. By midnight, roughly 13,000 were impacted by the outages, according to the utility company’s website.

Restoration times varied based on the location and the cause of the outage.
