Suspect arrested in shooting of three teens in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officers have arrested a teenager they believe shot three teens Thursday afternoon as they were getting off a bus.

Anthony Williams, 17, is accused of shooting the teens at about 3 p.m. at the Hampton Commons apartment complex off Milton Road in east Charlotte.

One of the teens was taken to a hospital by a friend. Officers found two others on the ground when they arrived. All three are expected to recover.

Williams was arrested during the early morning hours. Police initially asked Eyewitness News not to release his name until they got a chance to speak with more witnesses and possibly the victims.

Officers said they do not believe the shooting was random, and that the suspect and victims may have known each other.

The shooting concerned residents because it was not far from a middle school, but no one from the school was hurt in the incident.

Police are expected to release more details about the shooting Friday afternoon.
