Police chase ends in crash after suspects try to break into deputy's home

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A busy road in Cabarrus County was shut down for hours Tuesday morning following a crash that took out power lines.

Officials told Channel 9 that the crash happened on Utah Street in Kannapolis, at the intersection of South Cannon Boulevard, and was the result of a police chase.

The 17-year-old suspects, Jordan Albright and Donovan Docker, are facing several charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle.

Authorities said the pursuit began in Rowan County around 7:30 a.m. and ended with the crash a short time later.

Officials with the Rowan County Sheriff's Office told Channel 9 that the incident started when two men tried to break into a deputy's home Tuesday morning on South Central Avenue in Landis.

The deputy was home at the time and confronted the suspects, which led to the chase.

At some point, officers deployed spike sticks in the road and the chase ended with the wreck on Utah Street.

Meghan Shapley described the crash to Channel 9's Gina Esposito.

"The truck was barreling down South Cannon at like 95 mph, caught air, was tipping on two axels the whole time," Shapley said. "Flipped over the median. Hit the pole, and then pretty much fireworks went off."
