Chase starting in Iredell County leads to trooper-involved shooting

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — Five officers are on leave after a Statesville man was shot following a chase that ended in Davie County Sunday.

The SBI and Davie County deputies were back on the scene Monday.

Channel 9 learned the chase was caught on dash cam, but the shooting was not recorded.

Authorities say the incident started around 2 p.m. Sunday when state troopers in Iredell County tried to stop Steven Little and he sped off, then crashed into a pole along Highway 64 near Peter Hairston Road.

At some point, he was involved in what troopers are calling an "armed altercation" and was shot.

Channel 9 learned troopers initially tried to stop Little for a tag violation.

Roughly three hours later, Iredell County officials sent an alert that they were looking for Little and had just taken out 14 arrest warrants for fraud charges related to another incident.

By the time they sent their alert, he'd already been shot and taken to the hospital.

Two Davie County sheriff’s deputies fired shots at Little and they, along with three state troopers, are on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Little was released from prison in September. He's been convicted of several felonies over the last decade including weapon and drug charges.

The SBI is investigating the shooting.
