UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A traffic stop in Indian Trail led to the arrest of two people and the discovery of fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Narcotics detectives stopped Madeline Laney and Timothy Helms. Both were arrested on drug-related charges and taken to the Union County Detention Center.
During the intake process, detention staff determined Laney had attempted to conceal illegal narcotics inside a body cavity, according to the sheriff’s office.
About 7 grams of fentanyl and 1 gram of methamphetamine were turned over to detention staff.
Laney was charged with two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, along with charges including altering, destroying or stealing evidence of criminal conduct, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance inside a jail and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Helms was charged with two counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling for the use, storage or sale of a controlled substance and a parole violation.
Both remain in custody at the Union County Detention Center.
