IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Two Iredell County men are facing felony charges after deputies say they were found inside a church in Harmony Tuesday morning.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Winthrop Friends Meeting around 7:20 a.m. after the church’s alarm company alerted someone to signs of a break-in.
A deputy entered through an unlocked door and heard movement inside before hearing a door close, according to the Statesville Record & Record.
The deputy then went back outside and stopped and detained two men, identified as 32-year-old David Allen Jewell of Statesville and 31-year-old David Austin Painter of Harmony.
Court documents said both men were found inside the church.
Jewell and Painter were each charged with felony breaking and entering a place of worship.
They were taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and each given a $10,000 bond.
The church follows Quaker traditions, according to its website. Both suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
