CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, N.C. — A man was seriously injured after being attacked by several dogs while walking to a store in Chesterfield County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The attack happened Oct. 28 along Tadlock Road in the Pageland area.

Investigators said the 50-year-old victim was walking toward McCormick’s Grocery Store near the intersection of Kirkley Road and Peach Orchard Road when several dogs approached and attacked him. The dogs included a Boxer and multiple Pit Bull mixes.

Two people who were nearby on a four-wheeler intervened and helped bring the attack to an end, according to deputies.

The victim suffered multiple bite wounds and serious injuries. He was airlifted by Life Reach to Atrium Health in Charlotte for emergency treatment.

Following the investigation, Amanda Hope Freeman, 41, and Kenneth Dale Wroten Sr., 56, both of Pageland, were each charged with 10 counts of allowing dangerous animals to run at large under South Carolina law.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office credited its Animal Control Unit for its work investigating the incident and addressing public safety concerns. The agency also thanked the two people who intervened to help the victim.

The sheriff’s office reminds dog owners that they are responsible for keeping their animals properly controlled and contained.

Freeman and Wroten are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
