Union County parents express concerns over quarantine guidelines

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Some parents in Union County are concerned about the school district’s quarantine procedures.

Right now, students who stay home because of COVID exposure are marked with an unexcused absence. That is unless they get an order from the county health department.

Union County schools to comply with COVID protocols amid NC lawsuit threat

The Union County superintendent wrote to the health department: “My staff will continue to provide information requested to support you and your staff in these responsibilities. If there is information that is incomplete or difficult to understand, please contact Mr. McCraw or his team to rectify the situation. We can respond to your concerns more efficiently when they come to us from your staff upon identification instead of from NCDHHS staff or via written correspondence.

“With your participation, UCPS staff, UC Public Health staff, and NCDHHS staff developed a Control Measures in Schools Operational Plan for Isolation and Quarantine plan for collaboration in these efforts. I am interpreting your letter to be consistent with what everyone agreed would be the process moving forward through that plan. If that is not your understanding, please let me know immediately.”
