RALEIGH, N.C. — A 99-year-old North Carolina World War II Veteran is still in the gym several times a week, pushing himself to stay strong, both physically and mentally.
Nat Hines lives in Raleigh and like clockwork, he comes to the gym in his track suit with his gym bag in hand. At least three times a week, he hits the treadmill and weights at a fitness center for active adults. He told our news partners WTVD it keeps him young.

“Somebody asked me the other day ‘How do you move around so good?’ I said ‘I exercise,’” Hines said.
Hines was born in September 1920. He enlisted in the Army at 20 years old and was in Germany when World War II ended, enroute to Japan when the United States bombed Hiroshima.
Now, 75 years later, he credits his military training for his active lifestyle and willpower.
“Keep the body active. Don’t sleep to much, don’t relax too much,” Hines said. “Use your body, it’s supposed to be used. That’s what I understand. And, I find out the more I use my body, the better I feel and it helps the mind too.”
He said he had a quadruple heart bypass in 2009, but that has not slowed him down. He said he used to have arthritis in his back, but not anymore.
