CHARLOTTE — The Magenta Train officially arrives in Charlotte this March, offering vintage railcar rides, themed excursions, and its bar concept, Engine Room 87.
Parent Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway Co. teased those plans by bringing its signature magenta train to NoDa earlier this month. It’s all part of plans to expand the rail company’s entertainment division, which launched about three years ago, says Jennifer White, president.
“There is a lot of potential,” she said. ”The more we learn what the market wants and what Charlotte is looking for, the better. I think this will end up being something very big.”
The Magenta Train will be based at the train tracks at 424 E. 36th St.
Guests embark on a 90-minute journey, enjoying brunch, murder mystery dinners and other themed events along the way. A Christmas train will debut in 2027, with trips to Santa’s Village in Mint Hill. White says the train can be rented for corporate and private events, such as weddings. Engine Room 87 will tuck a bar inside a locomotive and caboose in NoDa, with 25 self-pour taps. It will remain parked there.
