Woman charged with supplying gun to felon who killed 4 officers in 2024 ambush

CHARLOTTE — ATF and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested a 42-year-old woman on Monday for allegedly supplying a firearm to a known felon who killed four law enforcement officers in an east Charlotte ambush in April 2024, according to court documents.

Natasha Renee Gibbs was arrested in Texas on Monday.

The charges stem from an east Charlotte police standoff on April 29, 2024. Police said it happened while the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was trying to serve a warrant along Galway Drive.

Investigators say Terry Clark Hughes, Jr. killed four officers and shot four others during the standoff. Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene.

The men were Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Joshua Eyer, U.S. Deputy Marshal Thomas Weeks, and Task Force Officers Sam Poloche and Alden Elliot.

“The loss of four dedicated members of our law enforcement family continues to weigh heavily on all of us,” said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Chief of Police Estella D. Patterson in a news release. “We are grateful for the steadfast work of our federal partners in bringing accountability to those whose actions contributed to this tragedy that shook both our community and the nation. Purchasing a firearm for someone who is prohibited from owning one is not only illegal, it can lead directly to devastating outcomes, as we saw on April 29, 2024. We remain united with our law enforcement partners in delivering justice for those we lost.”

Gibbs was indicted on two counts of false statement during the purchase of a firearm and one count of illegal transfer of a firearm.

Gibbs will make her first appearance in federal court on Tuesday in Plano, Texas. The hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. before Judge Don D Bush.

Gibbs is facing penalties of up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.

It is unclear if the gun was used in the ambush.
