Woman escapes Newton home after being held hostage for days, police say

NEWTON, N.C. — Investigators said a woman came to the Newton Police Department for help Monday morning, saying she was held against her will for three days.

Police said the woman came to the department’s lobby around 3:40 a.m. and said she had just escaped from a residence.

Police said she had visible facial injuries and bruising to her arms. She was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center for treatment.

The woman told police her boyfriend kept her prisoner at his residence and assaulted her several times.

Daniel Farnsworth, 24, is charged with second-degree kidnapping, assault on a female and assault by strangulation.

Investigators said on June 21, the victim was held down for over two hours and beaten. They said on June 22, she was beaten on the face and ribs and choked to the point of becoming light-headed.

Officials said the suspect also broke two cellphones to keep the victim from calling for help.

Farnsworth is being held in the Catawba County Detention Facility with no bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday.
