Lowes Foods To Focus On Locally Grown

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C.,None — Lowes Foods is trying to make a positive impact on the communities that they are located in and have teamed up with Pilot Mountain Pride in hopes of increasing the distribution of locally grown foods.

Lowes is hoping with consumer participation to strengthen local economies, support local farms and reduce fuel consumption.

There are many farmers in the area who contribute their locally grown foods to Lowes. Lindsay Deal owns a third-generation family farm located near the Bushy Mountains in Taylorsville, NC. The farm supplies Lowes with their peaches and apples.

Wayne Mitchem has a family farm located near Lincoln County. It is a fourth-generation farm that originally produced milk and cotton. It has expanded its selection since then and now produces cantaloupe, watermelon, blackberries and grapes for Lowes.

Patterson Farm Inc. is operated by a third generation farm family from China Grove, N.C. The farm is now operated by Randall and Doug Patterson along with their wives, Nora and Michelle. Lowes depends on their farm for tomatoes, strawberries, bell peppers, squash and pumpkins.

The Carr family owns the Titan Peach Farms. They are known to supply Lowes with their peaches. They are located in Ridge Springs, S.C., which is an area known to have the best climate and soil for peaches.

Lowes Foods and partner Pilot Mountain Pride aim to diminish the local agricultural struggles present today. They said the fate of the economy and the environment is ultimately in the hands of the consumer.
