Police Identify Charlotte Motel Stabbing Victim

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police identified the man who was stabbed to death at an east Charlotte motel early Sunday morning.

Officers found 44-year-old Sammy Davis Best at the Charlotte Inn Motel at 2701 East Independence Boulevard just after 2 a.m. They were called to the area because of a report of two men fighting.

Witnesses told the first officer on the scene that one of the men had been stabbed and was lying in the road close to the median near Bojangles Arena.

Best was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Officers said they spotted a man walking away from the scene towards Coliseum Drive, but the man ran from them. He was caught and taken into custody.

His has been identified as Kareem Banks. Banks was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
