South Carolina child shot after being left alone in vehicle with gun

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Authorities say a South Carolina man has been arrested after a child shot another child in his vehicle after he left them alone.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said 65-year-old Claude Pound is charged with illegal neglect of a child after the Aug. 17 shooting at a Lexington car dealership.

An arrest warrant says Pound left a .380 pistol in a camera bag in the floorboard of the vehicle and one of the children found it.

Koon says both children were under age 10 and the child who fired the gun is related to Pound, He did not give further details.

Koon said in a statement the wounded child is expected to recover.

Pound remains in jail and it wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
