Travelers who booked flights through Iceland’s discount carrier Wow Air are now scrambling to find flights to their destinations after the company abruptly shut all operations Thursday.
Wow customers were told to reach out to other airlines on their own to find any seats that may be available. Company officials said some airlines may give Wow customers a discount, or a rescue fairs, but no information had been released by Wow officials as of Thursday morning as to which companies will be able to help stranded passengers.
Officials are also telling their customers to check with their credit card companies for refunds.
If a trip was booked through a European travel agent, travelers may be able to to get some of the money refunded from them, CNBC reported.
They may also be covered by travel insurance, The Washington Post reported.
Icelandair Group was attempting to acquire Wow Air, according to CNBC. A private equity firm was also looking at investing in the air carrier, the Post reported.
Wow Air started flying in 2012 and employed more than 1,000 people last year. It owned 11 aircraft and carried about 3.5 million people in 2018, CNBC reported.
