The hunter's moon, also known by the Native American names the dying grass moon, the blood moon or the travel moon, will appear full between Saturday and Tuesday, according to NASA.

The term hunter’s moon was first cited in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1710 and is the first full moon after the harvest moon, the closest full moon to the fall equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Farmer's Almanac said the name comes from the fact that trees are shedding their leaves and deer are fat, signaling it's time to hunt.

Last month’s full harvest moon fell Sept. 13 and Sept. 14, depending on the time zone.
