Officials with the Fostoria Police Division confirmed that the sewing implement was found Sunday night, lodged in a KitKat bar, and a similar object was found in at least one other candy bar, WLWT reported.

“Although we only are aware of two pieces of candy being involved, we take this seriously and are appalled that anyone would be so demented as to want to hurt children in our community,” Fostoria Chief of Police Keith Loreno told the TV station.

No injuries were reported related to the needles, WTVG reported.

Following the discovery, ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital provided portable X-ray screening of any candy distributed in the area during the holiday weekend, both TV stations reported.
