In an emotional Facebook post, the mother of the alleged victim shared photos of her daughter with a bloody face and said that her daughter, Maya, had been lured out of her home prior to the assault.

“Apparently it had something to do with a boy, and so a mutual friend of these two set up this meeting at the Clifton City Park for the sole purpose of fighting,” Clifton Police Chief Chris Blanton told KWTX. “Once the victim showed up, she got jumped by this girl.”

Police arrested Savannah Walker and Ahliah Vestal, both 17, and charged both with aggravated assault in connection with the attack, KXXV reported. Both are charged as adults.

In a Facebook post addressing the situation, Clifton police said that they have met with administrators at Clifton High School about potential consequences for students who were not arrested and charged, but were present at the fight.

“Kids in high school here need to know that if you go and take advantage of somebody like this, we’re going to put you in jail,” Blanton told KWTX.

Police told KWTX that a 16-year-old, the person who was filming the incident, will also face charges.

“Being there and filming it, antagonizing it and cheering it on, is not okay,” Blanton told KWTX. “These other two didn’t throw a punch, but they helped plan it and helped set it up, filmed it and they encouraged it, so that’s the reason they’re getting charged the same.”

In her Facebook post, the alleged victim’s mother said she believed that the attack was retaliation for a police report that the family had filed a month prior.
