Johnny Mandel whose songwriting credits include ‘M.A.S.H.’ theme, dies at 94

OJAI, Calif. — Johnny Mandel, award-winning composer of the theme song from the hit television series from “M.A.S.H.” died in Ojai, California Monday. He was 94.

Mandel, a five-time Grammy recipient and Oscar winner, was the composer for iconic films such as “Caddyshack,” “The Verdict,” and the opening theme for the television show “Too Close for Comfort.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mandel collaborated with Quincy Jones, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra.

Mandel died Monday of a cardiac ailment at his home in Ojai, California, according to Lauren Iossa, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of ASCAP. Mandel served on the ASCAP board of directors from 1989-2011.
