SUMTER, S.C. — A South Carolina woman is accused of attempted murder after an argument broke out at a Waffle House, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Sumter Police Department, Shatarica Michelle Unique Gray, 35, of Sumter, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, driving under suspension and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
According to police, Gray was involved in an incident that caused injuries and damage to cars at the restaurant on Oct. 30, The State newspaper of Columbia reported.
At about 3 a.m., officers were called to the Waffle House, where witnesses said Gray allegedly confronted a security guard at the restaurant, according to the newspaper.
Police said Gray then entered a minivan and attempted to run over the guard, WIS-TV reported.
According to Sumter police, Gray missed the security guard and struck an occupied vehicle. Several other vehicles were also damaged, the police news release stated.
At least one person was injured and taken to an area hospital, WOLO-TV reported. That person was later released, according to the television station.
While officers were checking on the status of the injured person, a woman matching the description of the suspect -- later identified as Gray -- arrived at the hospital to have a minor injury treated, The State reported.
After her medical treatment, Gray was arrested, police said.
The vehicle driven in the incident was found in a wooded area in Sumter County, according to the news release.
The cause of the fight and what led up to it are under investigation, WIS reported.
Gray is being held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, online records show.
