Panthers change logo for first time in franchise history

None — The Carolina Panthers have a new look for the first time in 18 years.

The team released a new logo for the frist time since the team's inception into the National Football League in 1995.

The primary tweaks made by the creative department of the NFL are primarily in the features in the eye and mouth.

In a release from the team, the logo is described as a modernized version of the previous logo and logotype.   The logo has been designed to provide a "more aggressive, contemporary look to the logo while making it more three-dimensional for ever-increasing digital use."

Team president Danny Morrison says "we have one of the finest and most recognizable logos in the NFL and wanted to make it as modern as possible without losing the dramatic essence of the mark."

"It is a cleaner style that is easier to read and should be more applicable to different uses," says Morrison.

The new logo is evocative of the popular panthers statues found on the grounds of Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

The white outline around the logo has been removed to create a more dimensional feel and to keep the focus on the features of the panther.

The new font subtly nods to the swipe of a panther through a threestrip element incorporated into the "A" of  "PANTHERS."

The Panthers will transition to the refined logo throughout 2012.
