  • Charlotte is seeing near-record warmth before a powerful cold front brings a dramatic cooldown this weekend.
  • As of Wednesday afternoon, temperatures in Charlotte had reached 87 degrees, tying the record high for the date set in 2021.
  • Highs are expected to climb back into the mid to upper 80s Thursday and Friday before a cold front moves through Friday night.
  • The front could bring rain to parts of the North Carolina mountains, but the bigger impact around Charlotte will be a blast of cold wind. Temperatures are expected to fall into the 60s Saturday.
  • The cooldown will continue into Sunday morning, when temperatures could start near 40 degrees — a sharp change from the summerlike warmth earlier in the week.
