CMS board expected to take action on former superintendent investigation

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board is expected on Tuesday to take action on a report into the investigation of the former superintendent.

Channel 9 is asking what to expect.

The school board put Dr. Crystal Hill on leave earlier this year for an oversight investigation. They later reinstated her but then fired her soon after.

There have been 1,500 people who have signed two petitions calling for some Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board members to resign.

A Change.org petition demands that former Board Chair Stephanie Sneed leave the board entirely. The other petition wants the board members who voted to fire Hill to resign.

While that’s unlikely to happen, if any of the board members were to step down mid-term, North Carolina state law says the remaining members have the authority to appoint a replacement.

That person would fill the role until the next board election.

CMS policy says the school board would take applications for 20 days and give all who apply a chance to speak to the board.

Members would nominate their choice and then vote.

Sneed stepped down as chair at the same meeting where the board voted to fire Hill.

Hill claimed that Sneed signed contracts that she and other board members did not know about.

CMS also faces federal and state investigations into alleged financial irregularities.

Several people are scheduled to talk today about the turmoil.
