Make Mother’s Day memorable with these special events, offers

Make this Mother’s Day the best one yet by enjoying some of these sweet deals and special events happening in Charlotte.

Treat Mom to a tour of one of Charlotte’s hidden gems. McGill Rose Garden at 940 North Davidson St. will be open to the public each day through Sunday. There is no admission fee but donations to the McGill Rose Garden Foundation are appreciated.

Another special place to celebrate this special day is Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, where moms get free admission on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors should reserve or buy a timed ticket in advance. The first 250 mothers who come in each day will get a free potted plant.

Celebrate Mom with a visit to Historic Rosedale in Uptown on Sunday for “Mothers and Others Day Afternoon in the Gardens.” The grounds will be open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Moms also get free admission at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4: 20 p.m. with the purchase of youth admission.

Help Mom find her inner yogi and sign her up for a session of alpaca yoga at Good Karma Ranch in Iron Station. For $25, Mom can practice yoga for 50 minutes in the pasture among the alpacas. Classes are available on Saturdays and some Sundays in June and July.

Put a twist on a typical bouquet with handcrafted origami flowers. The Harvey B. Gantt Center in uptown will host an origami program for families on Saturday. All experience levels are welcome and an artist will be on hand to guide participants through the process. Tickets cost $10 per person.

Treat Mom to a spring concert by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Concerts are scheduled for this weekend at Amity Presbyterian Church on Saturday, and Five Points Plaza on Sunday. Admission is free but reservations are required.

If Mom has a sweet tooth, shop for homemade treats at one of these sweet spots: BW Sweets Bakery at 5820 East WT Harris Blvd. and 1425 Winnifred St.; Twenty Degrees Chocolates at 1930 Camden Road, Suite 135; The Secret Chocolatier at 2935 Providence Road, Suite 104; Davidson Chocolate Company at 610 Jetton Street, Suite 150; or Chocolatier Barrucand at 1 Union Street South in Concord.

Donate to TreesCharlotte and the organization will plant a tree at an area school during the tree planting season in Mom’s honor. Your family can attend a dedication ceremony and assist in the planting if you would like to attend.
