Carolina couple engaged in love story at Lowe’s

Love story at Lowe's (Marcello Aquino)

Victoria Slade has been an employee at Lowe’s Home Improvement for five years – the same amount of time she’s been with her boyfriend, Andrew Garlatz.

Garlatz pulled off an amazing proposal at the Lowe’s store in Matthews, North Carolina, where Slade worked before she took a job at Lowe’s corporate office, and the entire thing was captured on video.

Lowe’s got wind of it and reached out to the happily engaged couple to let them know they were being gifted a special photo session at the store.

Without a doubt, Slade was totally caught off guard. Her mom had set up a time to take family pictures that day, which gave everyone a reason to get dressed up.

And thanks to a long and apparently believable story about a broken doorknob, her family was able to convince her to make a quick stop at Lowe’s before taking the pictures.

“I walked in and saw my old co-workers, my old manager. I’m giving everybody hugs,” Slade said. “Then all the sudden, everybody I know from the store starts clapping and cheering down a line. I was like, ‘What is going on?’ I start walking further and see my best friend is recording. My sister is recording. Then I saw my parents with roses in their hands and the Bruno Mars ‘Marry You’ song is playing. Then I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really happening in front of all the people I know!’

“I finally saw him, and at this point, I am crying. He actually wrote a poem for me. It was amazing. I felt so bad because I could barely remember what he said. He needed to read it to me again afterward. I was so in shock. Then he popped the question, and there you go!”

Then came the message on Instagram from Lowe’s. The company surprised the couple with an engagement photo session at the same Matthews store.

It was a fun, creative shoot that took the couple through every part of the store.

“It was something out of the ordinary. Me and my fiance are quirky people, so this was a unique opportunity and we really enjoyed it,” Slade said. “I never expected such a wonderful gift. Especially in this time we are living in right now, for Lowe’s to recognize moments like this are important to people and to bring life to them – it’s really awesome.”

Slade said “yes” at Lowe’s.

The obvious question to ask is, will she get married at Lowe’s?

“I love Lowe’s, but I’m not sure I love Lowe’s that much,” Slade said with a laugh. “But you know what? You never know. It’s a DIY kind of store, so you never know. I just appreciate Lowe’s and how much of a family it has become for me.”
