'We just gotta do it': Wilmington residents prepare for Dorian

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Mandatory evacuations for the Wilmington area ahead of Hurricane Dorian begin Wednesday morning.

Homeowner Mark Ellington and his wife told Channel 9's Ken Lemon they pray the evacuations are just a precaution.

They own a rental property, manage a business and own a home -- all in areas near Wilmington where evacuations are mandatory or highly suggested.

"We know what we gotta do. We just gotta do it and hope it's a waste of time," Ellington said.

All the local stores are pretty much out of bread, but clerk Bob Stanley said he doesn't plan on leaving.

"I've seen regular rainstorms worse than what is going up here now," Stanley said.

The mayor of Bellville is trying to get residents to understand that although Dorian may not have the same impacts as Hurricane Florence, it could still be destructive.
