6-Year-Old In Critical Condition After Pit Bull Attack

MINT HILL, N.C.,None — A 6-year-old boy is in critical condition after being attacked by a pit bull, the Mint Hill Police Department said.

The dog attacked the boy at a home on Matthews-Mint Hill Road on Wednesday afternoon, police said. A family member called the boy's grandmother, Muriel Price, to tell her he was hurt. Police said Price, who lives next door to the home where the boy was attacked, was also attacked by the dog when she ran to the house to tend to her grandson.

Police and Medic were called, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Control took custody of the pit bull. The dog belongs to a family member of the 6-year-old, police said.

Price is in stable condition and her grandson is in critical condition. Both are being treated at Carolinas Medical Center Main. The boy has already undergone surgery, police said.

Police said the investigation is still pending and they are evaluating whether criminal charges will be filed.
