CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Police raided a home in south Charlotte on Thursday afternoon in an undercover drug operation.
• SLIDESHOW: Police Seize $60K Of High-Grade Marijuana
More than a dozen officers went to a home on Porterfield Road, which is off of Johnston Road in south Charlotte, around 4 p.m. Officers said they seized extremely high-grade marijuana that was so strong they had to wear gloves to touch it. They found 10 pounds of the drug, worth roughly $60,000, and $7,000 in cash, officers said.
Officers also said they seized furniture and two BMWs to pay the state tax bill associated with controlled substances.
James Stegall, Lindsay Adams, Roseanne Hansen and Christa O'Brien were arrested and appeared in court Friday. The suspects, who face drug charges, said little as they walked into the courthouse.
Officers said the four suspects were renting the home that was raided. Several neighbors said they assumed the suspects, who are all in their 20s, were college students, saying they kept a low profile. However, D.J. Eccleston said something about the renters didn't sit right with him.
"There was all different cars all the time -- probably, maybe two an hour," he said. "They would go to the door and that would be it. Then they would come out and they'd be gone."
Three of the four suspects have had past run-ins with police in Mecklenburg County, having been arrested on a combination of drug, alcohol and traffic charges.
Stegall, Adams, Hansen and O'Brien are out of jail on bond. All of them said they are hiring private attorneys.
Channel 9 found out that officers raided a different house on Porterfield Road during a drug investigation a year and a half ago. Three people were arrested in that case.
